Luxury Home Cinema & Entertainment Room

Home Cinema

During the construction of his new home, the client invited us to discuss the plans for a ground floor entertainment room.

The brief for this ‘L’ shaped room required a large screen cinema in one section, with a bar and general entertaining area in the rest of the room. With the ceiling height available and the open plan nature of the room, it was decided early on to install a large screen television rather than projector and screen, and a brand new 98” Sony model was selected, mounted to a Future Automation articulated bracket, so the front of the television could be flush fitted to the cabinetry around it. For the audio side of the area we concentrated on maximising the sound stage without the use of rear speakers, and so Artcoustic on-wall and in-ceiling speakers were selected. With the size of the television the centre channel utilised one of Artcoustic sound bars that was also mounted to the articulated television bracket, made to match the width of the screen, blending seamlessly with the rest of the front wall design. The front speakers were also recessed into the bespoke cabinetry, and the system then added two surround and four overhead Atmos in-ceiling speakers. To complete the system two subwoofers were then hidden inside the lower cupboards either side of the television, with careful design allowing the bass to be ported out the bottom of them.

In the entertainment area a 55” Sony OLED was mounted at the back of the bar, and a single Sky box split to feed both areas. With full surround sound required in the cinema, but standard stereo in the entertainment area so the same audio could be heard in the bar, seating and pool table sections of the room, a sophisticated HDMI splitter and audio down mixer from Blustream was installed to facilitate this. Seven discrete on-wall Artcoustic speakers provide music to wrap around this part of the room, supported by two subwoofers hidden inside the main bar cabinets.

Both rooms are controlled via Control4, and can be operated independently or joined for seamless music and television across the whole area at the same time.
